Another concept for Planet Hex. Heavy tank.

I like the design but aren't the exposed treads risky?
Lou331 Featured By Owner May 29, 2016
This is one hell of a Concept Tank, you Sir have an Amazing Gallery of Concept Designs......This Detailed presentation is top row for sure
all the best to you

This looks like tank from Warhammer 30K...
But weapon systerm are diiferent.

MBTs should be short for less of a silhouette; I thought this was an APC at first.
KaranaK Featured By Owner Apr 27, 2016  Professional Digital Artist
This is not MBT

Which solfwares did you use for drawing or modeling this kind of military vehicles and weapons?

Looks awesome.
Not a fan of such exposed treads though.
aviation13 Featured By Owner Jan 3, 2016
Same here.  An AP round to those top treads would ruin your day.
MelvWolfe Featured By Owner Jan 3, 2016  Hobbyist General Artist
AP not to much, as it would have to hit a part holding it together, HE on the other hand or just a soldier with an RPG would have an easier time to immobilize it.
Maxathron Featured By Owner Edited Aug 23, 2015
Yep.  A single shot at a tread and the whole tank is now immobilized, meaning very easy kill for just about anything out there.  A walker (unrealistic with "current day" technology) can at least limp off the battlefield.  A hovering vehicle can float away (presumably the shot hit the flap or vertical armor).  And a 6+ wheeled vehicle can still somewhat roll away.

Looks cool, though!
MelvWolfe Featured By Owner Aug 24, 2015  Hobbyist General Artist
Yep, which is why modern tanks like the Leopard 2 has atleast some armouring to protect the treads.  This one has them exposed with a larger profile.

Now if it was a self propelled Howitzer it wouldn't matter nearly as much. If your arty can be directly engaged by the enemy, then you have done something wrong.
Mastadon-King Featured By Owner Jul 30, 2015
Reminds me of C & C 3: Tiberium Wars and Kane's Wrath. Looks surprisingly similar to a scorpion tank from the GDI factions
diegoblade Featured By Owner Aug 1, 2015
Scorpion tank form GDI ?? =/"
Mastadon-King Featured By Owner Aug 1, 2015
Yeah. Scorpion tank. From COMMAND AND CONQUER 3. It looks pretty similar. Well, in design i mean.
rkraptor70 Featured By Owner Aug 10, 2015  Hobbyist
Scorpion is the NOD tank. The GDI one was called predator.
Mastadon-King Featured By Owner Aug 12, 2015
Oh yeah, that's right...don't I appear noobish right now. Either way, you got my point right?

150mm Smoothbore Cannon? How about 150mm Railgun / Ion Cannon? Those should be suit for this furturistic tank.
Deviator101 Featured By Owner Jun 28, 2015
Just because its a conventional gun doesn't mean it can't equip a futuristic tank.
Infernus9 Featured By Owner Jul 16, 2015
I never said "can't equip", but little bit unsuit on futuristic tank, as same as 21st century US marine using Napoleonic-era musket.
Deviator101 Featured By Owner Jul 16, 2015
Railguns aren't as flexible and can only fire straight. More conventional guns can lob there shots. So if you get an opponent in a good hulldown position, then that railgun, particle cannon or whatever becomes useless.

Cool looking!

Isn't the tracks source of weakness?
mechfan666 Featured By Owner Apr 1, 2015
Looks really cool, but I'd have left the front of the treads a hair less exposed. they're really vulnerable.
bowwing333 Featured By Owner Mar 28, 2015  Hobbyist General Artist
Ok this looks sick.  Love the shapes!

Thor is here.
Hammer of the gods!
Thunder and lightning, this is crazy!
(Lowered voice) Quiet... I'm trying to (now yelling) sneak up on them!
uncledon Featured By Owner Mar 22, 2015
I think that your art is great but this concept has a serious flaw from a practical field perspective. That much exposed forward facing track simply invites assault and the very last thing a heavy armor unit commander want sto hear is , "Sir we're off the track". Plus the absence of a drive wheel cover allows for debris to ride the track over the top to get jammed under the upper chassis plate.
I realize that this is fiction, just thought I'd drop in a little field experience.
Still, I'd hate to see this big dawg in in my forward scope.

Yep, cool but the tracks would get damaged easily x)
TypicalPlayer12 Featured By Owner Mar 20, 2015
And that's what I'd have in my driveway.
smokeTH Featured By Owner Mar 20, 2015  Hobbyist General Artist
Very crappy design.
Let's walk through it step by step.
1. Opened up front tracks - immideate weak spot - they're not exactly thick, so even 75mm shot would rip em apart.
2. 90 degrees sides - any shell will screw that up. Judging by compartment ammo is right next to them - that would result in ammo compartment explosion.
3. Back side  balanced improperly - that would result in tank flipping back 20 degrees after each shot's shockwave. Not a bad idea, except that opens up huge weak spot in between tracks which anyone with half of brain gonna use to shoot back at.
In general tank looks like someone cut out front part of mammoth tank, stripped half of armor and put a weapon on top of it.
jtfroh Featured By Owner Mar 27, 2015
Was gonna comment on exactly those things, but looks like you got it already.

Palliden7 Featured By Owner Mar 19, 2015
Interesting concept. Treads are too exposed. If you change the treads to two separate pair on each side would be a better design.

do you use 3d max? great work!
AaronWildHeart Featured By Owner Mar 18, 2015
I saw the thing on the "what's hot" section and I clicked on it.
My 'critique': sick.

As for what other people are saying in the comments, the whole "it's unbalanced..." and "it'll tip backwards...." etc. All i can say is that, well, if this is just a design, then the answer to their problems is fiction. It doesn't have to follow every single rule in physics.
However, if this is meant for some game or something, then, I think they have a point.

All unnecessary talk aside, great job! :)
PsychoticGamer278 Featured By Owner Mar 18, 2015
Not only are the tracks open but it looks extremely unbalanced and could tip backwards when the cannon is shot.
TheAstronomicon Featured By Owner Mar 18, 2015  Hobbyist Writer
Looks good, though a bit tall.
Firest Featured By Owner Mar 18, 2015
Looks good, but in addition to the aforementioned armor on the tracks you might want to add a ladder or two given the tank's size.
MechAce1337 Featured By Owner Mar 18, 2015  Hobbyist Writer
This tank looks AWESOME, but in all seriousness this would be a terrible tank to be in the treads are too easy of a target making you an immobile weapon. That looks to be its only weakness so far. If there was a bit more armor around the treads and in the front then this would be a menacing tank!
thorore Featured By Owner Mar 18, 2015
haha a tank named after me :D
